Be able to explore materials, Techniques and Processes safely.

Experimentation.

This is the video I created using the Intel from the tutorial I received showing us how to tween texts across the screen. I used what I was told and experimented to create my own.

These are the photos I took on the first week of this course on Aston Park, where I was in a group of five people, Jodie, Salina, Connor and Jess. Where we took some photographs of somethings to experiment with for example panorama and cutting and pasting images into each other. I produced some panoramic photographs out of the photos we took there. I also created some posters. We also took some textures of somethings like the text on the Aston Park sign and some other things like bricks, concrete and metal griddle. We used some of these textures in our posters. I didn't though.

I used many of the techniques taught in the tutorials to produce many of the image I got from these photos.

Jodie, Connor, Salina and I where set to be in a group to create this video.
This was a tutorial with Luke teaching us the methods of stop motion animation.
I like this technique because it's very creative and gives it that drawn edgy look. I've used stop motion for my project. But I have drawn most of it frame by frame.

This is the story board of my stop motion.

These are my three designs that I made using what I learned in my pattern tutorial.

This is the pattern that I created using a texture rubbing that I collected using a pencil or some graphite sticks to rub over a piece of paper that's attached to an object. This is my final design that I produced using three methods.

The first part of the video is an image of a girl in school bored out of her wits and just drawing people in her book.. The method that I used to do this was to draw it by hand first of all and to go over the whole image except the hand. Then I draw the hand in a separate layer on photoshop and moved it slightly in a different frame so it gave the impression that the hand was moving. This method was fine but it made the video run a little fast because I felt it didn't need to be something like ten minutes long.

The second method I used for the second part of the video is Rotoscoping. This is where I took some picture of Jodie's hand drawing an image of a stick man in preparation to the next part of the stop motion. This is where i drew of the images frame-by-frame.

The third part of the video is the actual stop motion that leads to the title "KABOOM".
I did this flick-book style drawing it free-hand frame by frame.

Final Evaluation

I designed a stop motion animation using three methods, drawing an image and manipulating a small part to give the impression of boredom and the stillness of the image was aiming to depict the main person in it ‘not being bothered’.

Learning outcome 1:

I think my work if it had that little bit more effort put into it then I’d have more time to do the last part of my animation digitally, but since I didn’t have much time to finalise my work, my method was using photography. I think that if I had the chance to do this, the animation would look a lot better. I think the things that I need to change is to maybe work on my frames a little faster so that it’s not just a few seconds running animation I think if I completed the second part of my animation so that the hand draws a full stick-man then maybe that would add a few seconds to the animation and if I completed the entire animation in Rotoscoping than it would look all that better.

Learning outcome 2:

The decisions made in the design where planned in a mind map, I also researched lots of animation videos and compared what would look better. I preferred the method that I chose because it was very bold and full of colour. There were no real artist inspirations behind my work, but I did research Man Ray and saw a few of his videos on YouTube, they seemed to be quite surreal and strange, originally I wanted to make a strange video but I just went for the video in a video idea. The technique that I used was to create an image on photoshop and leave one small layer (The hand and the pencil) free to move so that I could manipulate it frame by frame to give the impression that the person was drawing. The next method I used was Rotoscoping, which is taking lots of images using a Point and shoot or in my case a DSLR Nikon D40 and take frame by frame images of someone’s hand drawing a stick man, then importing each image onto Photoshop and drawing over them so that it was somewhat a stop motion and animated I liked the jumpy effect that was made using these techniques. The third method I used and the reasons for using them was Flick-book drawing, essentially, this was not my first choice but considering the time I left, I could not take photos and draw over them. So I took photos of images that I drew and put them together to create a stop motion.

Learning outcome 3:

My initial ideas to begin with were to do a stick-man stop motion without the separate video in the beginning. The reasons my ideas changed was because I didn’t feel it made sense in why there are stick-men causing the title of ‘Kaboom’ I felt that there needed to be motive behind it, rather than them just appearing. To come up with the ideas firstly I made a mind map of all the possible routes that I could have chosen. This was really helpful in helping me choose. The way my work developed over time shows in my blog with my storyboard that I posted. Which is my first idea, and how it developed to the final out-come. In my work, I did try to make all parts of my animations suit in the designing, but there wasn't enough time for me to Rotoscope the whole thing.

Richards animation/ Evaluation.

From what I see in Richards animation, though explained that he'd lost his first piece. Is that he seems to have worked well with the little time that he had. I like the effects in this animation. I think that maybe there was a little too much time spent on tweening and a little less on designing. I'm not too sure what the source of images where but they fit really well with the music. I like how the sound effects corresponds with the actual actions but to maybe manipulate the sound by reducing the sound a little as it somewhat kills the ambiance of the music. All-in-all I think that this animation is creative and fits really well.

I like the flare effects in this animation. I feel that maybe the tweens of the images.. Or the flicking of the paper effect could be a few frames longer just to give people more to see/listen to. I think also that the track choice may have a downside where the song starts to louden, it suddenly stops,so maybe find a track that stays balanced so there is no obstacles that needs to be avoided. Just to make life easier. =]
